Heart muscles receive blood from coronary arteries. Heart attacks occur when these coronary arteries become blocked suddenly.
Many people go to gym for one of the three reasons:
- Losing Weight
- Staying Fit
It is proven that regular exercising can improve your endurance and increases your muscle strength. But, excessive exercising above your body limit can cause downside. Reports declare the death’s occurring due to such sporting activities are very rare. Out of 1,00,000 people only 2 or 3 such death happens. Let’s explore why people are dying in gym.
What causes Heart Attack during Exercising?
Coronary arteries are responsible for supplying blood to the heart muscle. When there is a sudden blockage in this coronary arteries , it causes heart attack.
Also soft plaques that are formed in this coronary arteries might cause a large clot leading to Heart Attack. Lifestyle and genetic factors are other reasons for cardiac arrest.
When these blockages are left undiagnosed , it leads to sudden cardiac death during rigorous physical workouts. People below age 50 with smoking habits/high BP/Diabetes must be very cautious while exercising.
Prevention
- All gym’s must equip this instrument called Automated External Defibrillators [AED’s] which has many uses. Whenever someone has a sudden heart attack due to heavy exercising , this instrument can save their lives.
- It is to be noted that young and healthy people are very less likely to have heart attacks during workout, but it can still happen.
- As majority of doctor’s suggest, whenever there is a symptom of heart pain , back pain & shoulder pain, we must stop exercising.
- Doing simple activities like walking, cycling & yoga regularly during weekdays can do great good to our health. Also exercising 30-45 minutes per day is preferred over 2-3 hours per day.
- Do exercise as per your capacity and avoid over exercising just because your friends/ colleagues are doing heavy workout. Each person will have different capabilities & it is always suggested that you exercise within your capacities.
- Regular Health check up is needed to monitor your health progress.

Over dehydration during workout means not only loss of water but also it losses potassium and sodium which are essential for maintaining normal rhythm of the heart. Thus, make sure you keep yourself hydrated at regular intervals.
