How to Apply for Voter ID Online in 3 Easy Steps

A voter ID card is a document that proves your identity as an adult citizen of the country and is used to vote in local, state, and national elections. It is also known as the Electoral Photo ID Card or EPIC and is issued by the Election Commission. It may be used for various purposes, such as purchasing a mobile phone SIM card or applying for a passport, as generic identification, residence, and age evidence.

A voter id card contains your name, your father’s name, your sex, your date of birth, your address, and a photograph, which aids in the prevention of electoral fraud when voting. It serves as a trustworthy verification of your identity, age, and domicile, allowing you to get further identification cards.

What is voter id?

In India, a voter ID card is an important identifying document for a variety of reasons. It may be used as a picture ID in a variety of scenarios, including when applying for a loan, flying domestically, opening a bank account, and so on.

A voter ID card is a black and white bank-size card, not a plastic or smart card. It includes the cardholder’s portrait, date of birth, and address. It also has a serial number, a holographic sticker, and the issuing authority’s stamped signature.

You can apply for a voter ID online using the NVSP Service Portal, but you must have your papers scanned to submit an online application.

  • Step 1: Go to the Election Commission of India’s official website, NVSP Service Portal, and choose the first option if you are a new voter in India, or the second option if you are an overseas voter.

  • Step 2: After selecting the appropriate choice, you will be sent to a new page where the Hindi version of Form 6A will display. From the options provided, you may select either English or Malayalam.

  • Step 3: After you’ve decided on your preferred language, you’ll need to choose your state and district. You will be asked if you are a first-time voter or seeking a voter ID due to the Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency.

You must complete the full form and attach all relevant papers before submitting it. Your name will display on the Electoral Registration Officer’s (ERO) notice board once you submit your registration.

Anyone who chooses to object will have a week to do so. If no objections are raised, your name will be added to the electoral roll, and you will get your voter ID in the mail.

Why Is having a voter id important?

democracy

  • Gives you complete control over the future of your country.

  • Every vote is significant.

Conclusion:

The election season has here, and political campaigns around the country are at their pinnacle.

Since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, more than 100 million voters have been added to the list of eligible voters in India, and they are eager to vote for the first time.

In fact, according to DownToEarth, India’s voter base has grown by 52.6 million young people in the last year. Of course, before they may vote, they must first get a voter ID card.

In India, voter ID cards are issued by the Election Commission of India. The card not only acts as confirmation of voter identity but also prevents impersonation, guaranteeing that democratic elections are handled fairly.
